So...is anyone here an RA? I'm thinking of signing up to be one next semester but I have a few questions first.|
What's it like?
What did your duties entail?
What's your favorite part of the job?
What's the part you could've done without?
Would you be a RA again or not?
I used to be an RA (CA), but quit last semester. It's not a bad gig, free room and board, and you get a few extra bucks in your pocket on top of that. Though you have to do a lot of programs each month, for the residents which kind of sucks to organize, unless you like doing that type of thing. I believe you have to have 4 programs each month, but it's not all that hard if you're working with other CAs.
yeah i agree...I'm a CA and I really find it a rewarding experience. Yes it is quite time-consuming but in the end, you feel like you're a part of something big. I like it alot!
Duties include: Working in the office 10 hours/week; being on-call atleast 5 - 6 times a month, which basically mean you have to handle any over night issues in your phase, which could possibly lead to minimal or no sleep; PROGRAMMING (a little bit of a hassle but not that bad), enforcing rules and regulations, you know just basically babysitting...
My favorite part hands down is the connections you gain working as a CA. You get lots of "pull" and lots of control. Plus, you know alot more about campus happenings and just that much closer to the campus figureheads (always a plus).
What I could have done without...
Well looking at it in this perspective, I honestly tolerate everything about being a CA. Move-in week is horrendous! All the work to be done and if you are one of the lucky CAs to be on call those first couple of weeks, may God have mercy on your soul! But past that, nothing is too, too bad whereas I would give up my position.
I would definitely be a CA again. The perks certainly outweight the negatives. $900 bucks a month to babysit?! Can't beat that deal with a stick!!
Looking forward to meeting you in the Fall!
